Is it worth it to buy organic yoghurt? Are organic products healthy?
Wondering whether it is worth buying organic products? Organic products should be produced with respect for the environment at every stage of production. The basis for the production of organic dairy products, including organic yoghurt, is raw milk, which must have neither antibiotics nor hormones in its composition. Numerous scientific studies attest to the influence of the production system on the content of antioxidant components in milk.
Are organic products healthy?
Comparing the composition of organic yoghurt with that of conventional yoghurt, organic yoghurt contains much less saturated fatty acids, a higher content of omega – 3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E. Organic milk products made from organic milk also contain more conjugated linoleic acid – CLA. Linoleic acid is unrivalled in its health-promoting properties, not only having anti-cancer and anti-atherosclerotic properties, but also having a positive effect on the immune system.
Importantly, organic milk for bio yoghurt production is sourced from certified farms where animals are guaranteed access to green pastures almost all year round. Farms that raise and produce organic milk are subject to cyclical inspection to confirm their EU “green leaf” certification. This is what you will find on the organic yoghurt packaging along with the certification number. The packaging may also contain the name and logo of the certifying body and the detailed address of the producer. These elements give us assurance that the product is indeed organic. Remember that the appearance of only “eco” or “bio” prefixes in the name does not always guarantee that the product is truly organic, and producers often use them for marketing purposes.
