How to properly select cheeses for the cheese board?
Cheese board always makes an impression – as an appetizer for the main course or as a plate of snacks. What composition will delight everyone?
In dish form, the cheese board can consist of different components – not only various types of cheese, but also fruits, preserves and nuts. It is an excellent appetizer that will entice your appetite. At the same time, due to its calorific value, it is an amazing starter for an evening with some alcoholic beverages. After all, cheese and wine are the perfect match and New Year’s Eve and carnival is an opportunity to dazzle guests with a unique taste. However, you need to properly compose the board first.
Tips for composition of the cheese board
There is no magic formula for creating the perfect composition that will tempt all senses – sight, smell, taste. However, you have to remember about a few rules:
- Differentiate flavours – a board with similar cheeses is nothing interesting. Match ripened cheeses with a distinctive taste and those which are milky and milder. Add blue cheese or cheese with white mould;
- Mix textures – taste isn’t the only thing that counts. Textures will enrich your board. Make sure that the board does has both soft and hard types of cheese;
- Add sweetness – serve taste-breaking flavours, such as preserves or jams made from citrus and forest fruit, as well as grapes (perfect for sharper long-ripening cheeses) and pears (wonderful with blue Roquefort or Gruyere). Add walnuts or almonds.
