Italian cheeses hold a unique place among cheeses around the world. We absolutely cannot imagine our cuisine without Italian cheeses; we can use them for pasta, soups, stuffing, salads, meats, pizzas and desserts. To make sure you’re buying a genuine Italian cheese, check whether it has the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) on the packaging or whether it was produced in Italy. Everyone is sure to have a favourite Italian cheese, but it’s worth recalling which Italian cheeses we can find in the shops!

Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

Italian hard, ripened cheese. The longer the maturation time, the more intense the flavour and aroma of the cheese becomes. The cheese has a very long cheese-making tradition and is only produced in the designated areas of Parma, Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Modena and Mantua. Italian Parmigiano Reggiano cheese is wonderfully suited to salads, pasta, risotto and pizza.

 

Grana Padano cheese

Italian hard, ripened cheese. The DOP designation of origin denotes its originality. The unique aroma and flavour of this Italian cheese adds variety to pasta dishes, soups and Italian antipasti. Most often this cheese is served grated or flaked.

 

Burrata cheese

Burrata is a soft Italian cheese that hides sweet cream and straciatella inside. This unique Italian cheese has no equivalent in other countries! Burrata is characterised by its creaminess, softness and the lazily spilling centre of the interior. This delicious Italian cheese is a great starter, an accompaniment to salads or soups, and can often be found on pizza.
